As Good as it Gets. It Really Was.
In a time where boasting and 'all time' calls seem to happen all too often, this one's for real. We saw incredible conditions at the #MargiesPro today, as good sized swell with plenty of west in it hit The Box ledge, producing classic conditions and some good sized slabs. Combine this with the top surfers of the world here to flex their collective muscle, and spectators were in for one of the most memorable days on record. With such testing conditions it's little surprise that there were casualties - spare a thought for Italian Leo Fioravanti who dislocated his shoulder in a morning surf before the heats had even begun, pulling him out Heat 7 and contention. The strong off-shore that gave competitors a few worries in the early heats died off and the swell continued to surge in, bringing big sets, cleaner faces and some all-time surfing from the world's best. It really was a day to remember, one for the history books for sure. Of particular note was an absolute bomb set that rolled through when Slater was doing his interview rounds. Wow! One from that sequence is our pic of the day, and is on Facebook at Surfing Margaret River. A few other favourites will be up on insta @surfingmr tonight. And how could we not mention dolphins in the line-up giving one lucky Pro a bit of company in the green room. Great conditions are forecast for the next few days, just in time for the WA Foundation Day long weekend. We could not have asked for better conditions. With a front looking like it might hit by next weekend, now's the time to be in Margs. Get yourself down here and to Surfers Point for some memories that'll likely last you a lifetime.
