Earlier in the week most of us saw the shark alerts for around the Gnarabup Gas Bay area, bought about by a whale carcass that was seen in the area. Later in the week parts of the carcass washed up on the shore along Boodjidup and Gas Bay.
Friday morning saw the Gas car park closed, while large machinery removed the whale. While some people were deterred by the presence of the carcass, others only a few hundred metres away were in the water.
The whale migration is likely to produce the odd carcass, and there's no doubt that these carcasses do attract sharks, of all sizes and species. It might be wise to be mindful of this.
